The White House physician has declared the US president is “fully fit” to serve.
According to a memo from White House physician Captain Sean Barbabella, US President Donald Trump is in “excellent cognitive and physical health.”
Trump underwent a five-hour physical examination, including blood work and a cognitive assessment, at a Bethesda, Maryland hospital on Friday. This was his first physical of his second term.
Barbabella’s memo, released Sunday, stated the 78-year-old president is “fully fit” for his role.
The memo further noted, “President Trump remains in excellent health, exhibiting robust cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and general physical function.”
The doctor emphasized that the US leader’s “active lifestyle,” which includes meetings, public appearances, and “frequent victories in golf events,” contributes significantly to his well-being.
The memo detailed that Trump weighs 224 pounds (101.6kg) and is 75 inches (190cm) tall, with a resting heart rate of 62 beats per minute and blood pressure of 128/74 mmHg.
The examination also revealed scarring “on the right ear from a gunshot wound” resulting from a July assassination attempt, the memo stated.
Barbabella also noted the president had “minor sun damage” and several “benign skin lesions.”
Trump achieved a perfect score of 30 out of 30 on the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), a test used to identify cognitive decline and early signs of dementia. The 10-minute assessment includes tasks such as drawing a clock, naming animals, and recalling words after a five-minute delay.
Speaking to reporters on Air Force One Saturday, Trump asserted he “got every answer right” on the cognitive test.
“Overall, I felt I was in very good shape. A good heart, a good soul, a very good soul,” he commented.
The president mentioned receiving “a little bit” of lifestyle advice from the doctor to improve his health but provided no additional details.
Trump had previously questioned the cognitive and physical health of former US President Joe Biden, who left the White House at the age of 82.
Biden declined to take a cognitive test following a perceived poor debate performance last June. He withdrew from the presidential race a month later and was replaced by his Vice President Kamala Harris, whom Trump defeated.
