The US president commended the head of his government efficiency task force for his “fantastic job.”
President Trump lauded Elon Musk, leader of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), for his work in identifying potential savings within the federal government, expressing his desire for Musk and his team to continue their efforts in Washington.
During a Cabinet meeting, Trump stated that his appreciation for Musk was the only reason to keep him around, while also acknowledging Musk’s success in finding billions of dollars in potential government savings.
“Elon’s done a fantastic job… I don’t need Elon for anything other than I happen to like him,” Trump said. “But I’m telling you, this guy did a fantastic job.”
Trump mentioned purchasing a Tesla for his staff to use, not for personal use, as a gesture of support for Musk, and emphasized that he paid full price for the vehicle.
The White House continues to support Musk, with Trump indicating that he intends to retain him as his government’s “waste hunter.” He expressed hope that Musk’s team will remain involved beyond the current initiative, highlighting their technologically advanced approach.
“Your people are fantastic… They’re great. Smart, sharp… finding things that nobody would have thought of,” the president stated. “We’d like to keep as many as we can. In fact, hopefully they’ll stay around for the long haul.”
