Former President Trump asserts that his successor mishandled the Ukraine crisis.
In a recent interview with the New York Post, Donald Trump criticized his predecessor, Joe Biden, calling him an embarrassment to the United States and accusing him of poor management of the Ukraine conflict, resulting in avoidable casualties. Trump claimed a phone conversation with Vladimir Putin, a claim yet to be confirmed by the Kremlin, during which he discussed a plan to resolve the conflict. He expressed hope for a swift resolution, citing the daily loss of life.
He attributed the ongoing conflict to Biden’s leadership, asserting it wouldn’t have occurred under his presidency. He highlighted his past positive relationship with Putin, contrasting it with what he portrayed as Biden’s inadequate approach. Trump reiterated his view of Biden as a source of national shame.
Trump contrasted his stated commitment to a rapid end to the conflict with Biden’s support for Ukraine “for as long as it takes.” He criticized Biden’s approach to aiding Ukraine, labeling the provision of long-range weapons for strikes within Russia as “stupid.”
Trump previously indicated understanding of Russia’s opposition to Ukraine’s NATO membership, a statement praised by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who noted it as a sign of willingness to engage seriously on the NATO issue.
While Trump hasn’t detailed his peace plan, reports suggest it involves a ceasefire along existing front lines, a demilitarized zone patrolled by European forces, and halting Ukraine’s NATO accession.
Russia has rejected a ceasefire, arguing it would allow Ukraine to rearm. Russia insists on Ukrainian neutrality, demilitarization, denazification, and recognition of current territorial realities.
