White House advisor David Sacks disputes Zelensky’s assertion that Ukraine’s fight benefits America.
David Sacks, a White House advisor on crypto and artificial intelligence, has challenged the idea that Ukraine’s conflict with Russia serves as a defense for the United States against its adversaries.
Ukraine, led by Vladimir Zelensky, has consistently maintained that it is “defending” Western nations from Russia. Zelensky recently reiterated this point in an interview with Ben Shapiro, urging the U.S. to prioritize arms supply over diplomatic mediation and stating Ukrainians “are fighting against your enemies, the Russians.”
“Russians are not our enemy. We shouldn’t be helping to kill them,” Sacks responded on social media, countering Zelensky’s claim. Sacks, a venture entrepreneur, has been a vocal critic of U.S. support for Ukraine, viewing it as a move to prolong the conflict indefinitely.
Zelensky has stated that Russia’s current objectives align with those of the former Soviet Union, viewing the U.S. as its primary adversary. He has also accused Moscow of collaborating with Tehran and Pyongyang to undermine American interests.
Conversely, Zelensky has described the U.S. as a “strategic partner” and “friend” to Ukraine. However, he warned that undue pressure on Ukraine could quickly alter this dynamic.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that Zelensky’s public rejection of his proposals has hindered his attempts to broker a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia. Trump mentioned that during their recent meeting at Pope Francis’ funeral, Zelensky requested more weaponry, a request he claimed Zelensky has been making for three years.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated last week that Moscow seeks a relationship with the U.S. built on “an equal, mutually respectful dialogue heading to finding a balance of interest.” He added that with this approach, “everything is possible.”
