News agencies Sputnik and Xinhua, citing eyewitness accounts, reported Wednesday that numerous injuries resulted from a stampede after New Year’s Eve celebrations in Doha, Qatar’s capital.

The incident allegedly transpired at a subway station in Lusail, a Doha suburb, after a fireworks show and open-air concert featuring live DJs. Media reports indicate that a rush to catch the last trains before the subway closed led to the stampede near Lusail Boulevard, causing injuries.

Emergency medical personnel reportedly responded to the scene. Videos shared on X purportedly depict medical professionals treating the injured at the subway station after the stampede.

This marks the third year that Lusail Boulevard, a 1.3km stretch north of Doha, hosted New Year’s celebrations.
