Shanghai Supermarket Attack Leaves Three Dead, 15 Injured

Police believe the attacker was motivated by personal financial issues.

Police in Shanghai reported that three people were killed and 15 injured in a knife attack at a supermarket on Monday. The incident occurred just before China’s week-long National Day holiday.

Officers responded to a report of the incident at 9:47 pm on Monday. The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Lin Moumou, was apprehended.

Eighteen individuals were transported to the hospital, with three succumbing to their injuries. The remaining 15 are in stable condition, according to police. Initial investigations indicate that Lin’s actions were driven by “personal financial reasons.”

CCTV footage shows a man wielding a knife in each hand, as shoppers scream and attempt to escape.

China enforces a strict prohibition on civilian firearms, resulting in knives being the primary weapon in violent incidents.

Last month, a 10-year-old Japanese student was fatally stabbed outside a school in Shenzhen, China.
