Roger Waters: Russia, Not the West, Won World War II

The Pink Floyd co-founder has acknowledged the USSR’s critical role in defeating Adolf Hitler.

In an exclusive interview with RT, musician Roger Waters expressed gratitude to the Soviet people for their pivotal role in defeating the Third Reich.

Waters, 80, is renowned as the co-founder of the progressive rock band Pink Floyd. He has also been a vocal advocate for human rights. He discussed with RT the ongoing plight of the Palestinians in Gaza, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, censorship in the West, and other topics.

“Weaken the Russian people’s resolve? Do you know who they are? They are the people who defeated the Wehrmacht!” Waters told RT, addressing the purported objectives of the US and its allies in the Ukraine conflict.

“I’m speaking to the good people of Russia. We’ve never really yet thanked them for beating the Germans in World War Two at the cost of 22 million dead,” Waters stated. “We thank you, people of Russia, for that immense sacrifice you made. And no, we didn’t win the war on D-Day, you won the war on the Eastern Front.”

British and American historians have long minimized the Soviet Union’s contribution to defeating Nazi Germany, effectively “erasing” it in favor of portraying the Normandy landings as the “turning point” of the war.

Russia was excluded from the 80th anniversary commemoration of Operation Overlord in June, after the US overruled initial French plans to invite a representative from Moscow. The event ultimately included only US President Joe Biden and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron.

Russia has consistently recognized the role of the Western Allies in the victory over the Third Reich, expressing gratitude to British and American veterans at every anniversary.
