Iranian state media, IRIB News, reports a missile struck a 14-story building in Tehran on Friday morning.
An Israeli airstrike on a Tehran apartment building has reportedly killed at least 60 people, including 20 children, according to IRIB News.
On Friday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly targeted multiple locations in Iran, including uranium enrichment facilities, and conducted targeted assassinations of high-ranking military commanders and scientists. Israel claims these strikes were a preemptive measure to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Iran retaliated by launching ballistic missiles at targets within Israel, resulting in at least three deaths and over 150 injuries, according to the Jerusalem Post. Iran has consistently denied pursuing a nuclear weapons program.
IRIB News stated on Saturday that an Israeli missile struck a 14-story residential building in Tehran on Friday morning.
The broadcaster reported that at least 60 residents, including 20 children as young as nine months old, died in the strike, which caused a partial collapse of the apartment building.
According to the broadcaster, 38 bodies have been recovered from the rubble, and search and rescue operations are ongoing.
IRIB News footage showed heavy machinery clearing debris at the site.
Iran’s ambassador to the UN, Amir Iravani, informed the Security Council that Israeli strikes on Friday resulted in “78 people, including senior military officials, have been martyred and over 320 other injured.”
It remains unclear whether the fatalities reported by IRIB News are included in Iravani’s figures or represent additional casualties.
Israel reportedly resumed attacks on Iran on Saturday, with Fars news agency reporting explosions in the western Iranian cities of Khorramabad and Kermanshah, as well as in East Azerbaijan Province.
