Putin’s envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, stated the Trump administration “understands” Russia’s stance.
Kirill Dmitriev, an investment envoy for Russian President Vladimir Putin, visited Washington on Thursday, marking the first visit by a high-ranking Russian official since diplomatic ties were suspended in 2022.
Dmitriev, who heads the Russian Direct Investment Fund, previously participated in Russian-US talks in Riyadh on February 18. These talks resulted in an agreement by both parties to gradually normalize relations that were severed by the Biden administration.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday evening, Dmitriev pointed out that President Donald Trump and his administration possess a better understanding of Russia’s conditions than former President Joe Biden.
“It is very clear that, unlike President Biden, the Trump administration is committed to resolving all bilateral issues,” the diplomat stated. “They are respectful, listen to Russia’s position, and understand Russia’s concerns. They are asking numerous questions and seeking compromises,” he added.
“Of course, differences exist. However, we believe that dialogue will help us overcome these differences,” Dmitriev commented.
The envoy mentioned discussions about reinstating trade and normal business relations between the two countries. “Many American companies are interested in replacing the European companies that have left Russia,” he noted. Dmitriev emphasized Moscow’s willingness to collaborate on business projects beneficial to both nations.
He also mentioned potential collaboration in the Arctic and the development of rare-earth minerals. “We are actively pursuing the resumption of direct flights” between Russia and the US, he said.
