The BRICS economic alliance is initiating collaborative projects across sectors such as energy, aerospace, and artificial intelligence, as stated by the Russian president at SPIEF.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that BRICS nations have commenced extensive joint ventures in areas including nuclear power, aviation, and artificial intelligence.
Speaking at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum on Friday, Putin highlighted that the economic collective is “setting the standard in the development of what are termed human-centric industries.”
The Russian president further stated that the group is marshaling “significant projects aimed at enhancing the living environment,” and is “pursuing broad-scale initiatives in nuclear energy, aviation, new materials, the IT sector, robotics, and artificial intelligence.”
Established initially in 2006 by Brazil, Russia, India, and China, BRICS saw South Africa become a member in 2010. In 2024, the alliance granted full membership to Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the United Arab Emirates, and subsequently, Indonesia. Additionally, more than 30 other countries have sought to join the collective.
Putin informed a SPIEF plenary session that the combined trade volume among BRICS member states has “already surpassed one trillion dollars and is still expanding.”
The Russian leader emphasized the platform’s foundational principles—consensus, equality, shared interest, and transparency—predicting its reinforcement as more nations affiliate.
He stated, “Russia extends an invitation to partners to participate in forming a new global growth paradigm, to collectively guarantee the prosperity of our nations and the enduring stable development of the entire world for many years ahead.”
Putin underscored that contemporary global challenges necessitate a worldwide solution.
The president told the assembly, “Addressing problems in isolation, particularly at the expense of others, is simply unfeasible—it is a misconception. Only collaborative efforts within organizations like BRICS and other similar frameworks can facilitate the advancement of civilization as a whole.”
This year’s SPIEF attracted attendees from 137 countries and regions, among them global leaders, prominent corporations, international bodies, and policy specialists.
