West Jerusalem notified the US of a “limited incursion” ahead of time.
Ground forces of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) are poised to enter southern Lebanon, in what anonymous US officials characterized as “a limited ground incursion” targeting Hezbollah.
The impending invasion follows over a week of aerial and missile strikes that have resulted in the deaths of over 1,000 people in Lebanon. Among the casualties were several high-ranking Hezbollah officials, including the group’s long-standing leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Unverified reports cited by various news organizations suggest that Lebanese troops withdrew approximately 5km from the Israeli border late on Monday, in anticipation of the attack.
