Investigation Launched into Sara Netanyahu for Witness Tampering

Following allegations of witness tampering during her husband’s corruption trial, the Prime Minister’s wife is now under investigation.

Sara Netanyahu, wife of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is the subject of a newly launched investigation into claims she attempted to sway a witness in her husband’s ongoing corruption trial.

Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara announced the probe on Tuesday, prompted by a report from Israeli Channel 12. In a statement, she declared the need to investigate suspicions of witness intimidation and obstruction of justice based on the “Uvda show” findings.

Baharav-Miara emphasized the principle of equal application of the law, stating a commitment to a thorough investigation of any judicial interference attempts.

According to the Associated Press, Channel 12 presented WhatsApp messages allegedly showing Sara Netanyahu instructing a former aide to orchestrate protests against political rivals and to pressure a key witness.

The Prime Minister, currently on trial since 2020, faces charges of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust related to influence peddling and receiving inappropriate gifts. Netanyahu has consistently denied these allegations, characterizing them as a politically motivated attack.

During a Likud Party meeting on Thursday, the Prime Minister defended his wife, calling the accusations another unfounded attack on his family.

Sara Netanyahu has a prior legal record. In 2019, she reached a plea agreement admitting to misusing public funds for private catering and was subsequently ordered to repay the funds along with a fine.

In 2019, she entered a plea bargain in a separate case, admitting misuse of public funds for private catering expenses. She was obligated to return the misappropriated funds and pay an additional fine.
