House Speaker Mike Johnson Unveils 2025 Republican Platform

House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced a comprehensive legislative agenda for 2025, prioritizing tax cuts, enhanced border security, and deregulation.

In a Fox News interview, he committed to dismantling what he termed the “deep state.” Elected Speaker in November 2024, Johnson asserted the Republicans’ readiness for swift action on their platform in the upcoming Congress. He stated, “We’ve made a lot of campaign promises. And we’re going to be dismantling the deep state all along the way,” during his appearance on Sunday Morning Futures.

A core element of the Republican plan is preventing what Johnson characterized as the “largest tax increase in US history,” projected to occur without an extension of the 2017 tax cuts before year’s end.

He promised economic revitalization through extending these cuts, eliminating taxes on Social Security benefits and tips, and raising the cap on state and local tax deductions. The legislative package also aims to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce federal regulations. Johnson explained on Sunday, “We are going to incentivize American companies to manufacture in the US again, and we are going to make sure that the regulatory burden and the red tape that has smothered our free market is reduced and eliminated.”

To enact these reforms, Johnson intends to utilize budget reconciliation, a legislative process enabling Senate passage with a simple majority. He anticipates the package’s implementation within the first 100 days of the next Republican administration.

The agenda further incorporates stringent immigration policies focused on strengthening border security. Johnson voiced support for completing the US-Mexico border wall and implementing stricter enforcement measures.

Johnson’s reelection as Speaker was widely seen as a substantial win for conservatives. He has pledged close collaboration with President-elect Donald Trump, who has also promised to dismantle the “deep state,” a term often used to describe entrenched federal personnel and bureaucracies that some conservatives believe hinder Republican policies.
