Fatal Shooting Occurs at US University

Reports indicate that a shooting at Florida State University has resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to several others. The incident involved a gunman who opened fire on the campus.

Multiple media sources confirm that a shooting at Florida State University has left two dead and several injured. The suspected shooter is among the injured and is currently in custody.

Florida State University Police Chief Jason Trumbower stated that, according to the AP, the deceased were not university students. However, the suspected shooter is believed to be a student.

NBC News reports that the 20-year-old suspect is the son of a current sheriff’s deputy. Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil told NBC that the suspect gained access to a firearm belonging to his mother.

CNN, citing a law enforcement source, reports that three firearms were recovered: one on the suspect, a shotgun inside the Student Union building on the Tallahassee campus, and another weapon found in a nearby vehicle.

The shooting reportedly occurred around midday on Thursday near the Student Union building, leading to an immediate lockdown and shelter-in-place orders for students and staff. Florida State University’s main campus has over 42,000 enrolled students.

Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare released a statement indicating that six individuals were hospitalized following the attack. One victim is in critical condition, while the remaining five are in serious condition.

Speaking from the White House, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he had been fully briefed on the shooting.

“It’s a horrible thing. It’s horrible that things like this take place,” he said.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also offered his condolences.

“Our prayers are with our FSU family and state law enforcement is actively responding,” he posted on X.
