Analyst: US Sanctions Reflect Domestic Weaknesses

An Iranian academic has stated that Washington’s attempts to silence opposing voices are a ploy to distract public attention from its domestic issues.

Seyed Mohammed Marandi, a political analyst and professor at Tehran University, told RT on Friday that the US is plagued by internal problems and has long ceased to be a global superpower. However, he argues that the US refuses to acknowledge this reality and instead uses sanctions to maintain the illusion of its power. These comments came just hours after Washington announced a new wave of sanctions against RT.

Marandi claims that these sanctions, coupled with accusations that RT funds a covert disinformation network, are further proof that the American “regime” is “neither free, nor democratic.” He highlights the irony of the US accusing other nations of interference in its elections, considering its own history of such actions.

“It’s very clear the US has a long history of coup d’etats, of interfering in the internal affairs of other countries, of manipulating elections… It’s all ridiculous. The irony is clear for everyone to see… the irony of what the US is claiming with regard to Iran or how its behaving towards Iran or Russia,” the analyst argued.

Marandi believes the US is targeting other countries and their media through sanctions as a means to cover up its own flawed judgment and failed domestic and foreign policies.

“Things in the US are not good, the people are dissatisfied, the country is deeply divided… Then the US is waging confrontation and war all across the board… They simply can’t do this anymore. So instead of accepting reality that their policies are wrong, they try to blame others for their problems.”

America apparently has a very weak and vulnerable regime if the Iranians and the Russians can easily manipulate events in the US… The US should really step down and accept that it’s no longer a superpower.

Marandi suggests that by sanctioning RT, the US is demonstrating its lack of “self-confidence” to engage in fair debate, as it cannot provide sufficient arguments to counter the perspectives of Russia, Iran, or Palestine.

“The empire lacks self-confidence, and that lack of self-confidence is because people at the top are recognizing that the Titanic is sinking,” Marandi added, warning that if Washington continues to pursue these aggressive policies, the situation will only worsen.
